1924 - Erich von Stroheim's Greed

In 1924, Austrian silent film director Erich von Stroheim released what is considered to be the "holy grail" of films. The film is the story of three people who become obsessed with money to their ultimate demise. The original film was over nine hours long and was shot in several non-Hollywood locations including Death Valley and the Sierra-Nevada Mountains. When the newly-formed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) edited the film, they cut it to 2.5 hours. Bee Ho may have performed a scene in which he showed off his roping skills during a vaudeville segment, but if the scene ever existed it did not make it into the final cut. He also was hired to throw the knife on behalf of the character Marcus when he becomes angered at the main character, McTeague, in a scene in Frenna's saloon. That scene in which the knife flies across the room and sticks into the wall boards right next to McTeague's head exists in the final version of the film.
