| Iron Tail, survivor the Battle of Little Bighorn and the Massacre at Wounded Knee, was invited to Washington, D.C. by General Nelson Miles. While on this journey to the East Coast, Iron Tail also visited New York. He had been chosen along with two other Navive American chiefs, Two Moons (Cheyenne) and Big Tree, to model for James Earle Fraser to create the Indian head profile on the Buffalo Nickel used from 1913-1938. Bee Ho, who knew Iron Tail from his time at the 101 Ranch, is said to have accompanied him to New York and Washington D.C. to act as his guide and interpreter. Read more about Iron Tail here. |
